It’s on everyone and their mother’s mind.
After the announcement of Smash Bros. on the Nintendo Switch, the speculation for new characters has been real. Some seem like a real possibility, while some are just downright insane. It’s no secret that this next instalment for Smash has the potential to be huge. With the hype revolving around the series and the popularity of the Switch, the game will undoubtedly sell well. There is a huge debate about whether it will be a port of a brand new game, but in this discussion, it doesn’t really matter as it’s already been proven that there will be more characters with the Inklings. I’m going to set some ground rules here, such as trying not to have too many characters from the same franchise, I’ll be taking out characters from the roster in favour for more unique ones and I’m going to try and be as realistic as I can.
With that, let’s get to it with the 10 characters we want in Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo Switch!

Just like how Nintendo implemented the Wii Fit Trainer, many think the new smash will have a character referencing the Labo. At first I didn’t like this but then I saw the popular gif from @JavedLSterritt and I was sold. The little LaboMan could really have his own creative move-sets that reflect the different aspects of the Labo product like the house or robot kit. Although Labo hasn’t come out yet, I’m hopeful that it will do well for the audience that it’s intended for. And more importantly, I’m hoping to kick a little ass with it when Smash Bros. finally hits the Nintendo Switch.
Travis Touchdown From No More Heroes
The protagonist of No More Heroes and your typical assassin/otaku. Travis is filled to the brim with stereotypes; dead parents, bad love life, and a lightsaber like beam katana. No More Heroes is a bit of an oddball in the Nintendo world. The game is really mature and deals with some heavy stuff, but one look at Travis and you can tell, he belongs in Super Smash Bros. Being apart of the United Assassin’s Association could lead to some really interesting moves as Travis is a master of the beam katana and pro wrestling moves, God only knows what his final smash could be!
This one is my personal favourite.
Waluigi is the king of memes when it comes to the Mario franchise and fans have been begging for him for a few years now. Although he has never appeared in any of the mainline games, Waluigi has been in almost every spin off game including the Mario Tennis, Mario Kart, the Mario Party games and was even the antagonist of the Mario Dance Dance Revolution. There is also the fact that our purple clad hero is already an assist trophy and has some interesting moves. They could range from using tennis rackets and golf clubs, to something to do with eggplant or his Wall-Luigi move from Mario Strikers Charged. You can already even tell what type of character he would be, a medium build with a high jump but low attack power.
Please Nintendo, the meme lords are begging you.
Take out Lucina and add Lyn From Fire Emblem
It’s always controversial when someone says they wish someone should be taken out of the smash roster, but now there is essentially a second Marth clone when it comes to Lucina. I know that Marth, Roy and Lucina play a bit differently and deal damage differently but people already don’t like clone characters as it is. There is also the common complaint that there are too many Fire Emblem characters, there being six. I think Fire Emblem is well represented, which I’m happy for since its my favourite series, but I do think that maybe they don’t need to add any characters. Smash has a rep for having too many characters with swords and adding Lyn doesn’t help, she’s a popular character that can add some samurai like gameplay as well as some ranged attacks thanks to her class upgrade adding the bow to her arsenal. Her final smash could be like Robin’s where Chrom helps him, but instead it’s Eliwood and Hector for an all out attack.
Wolf Link and Midna From Twilight Princess
Its no doubt that The Legend of Zelda franchise is Nintendo’s second biggest in terms of sales and just as equally loved as the likes of Mario. Twilight Princess is known for being a bit darker and creative with the creation of the Wolf Link and Midna duo. They could work like Duck Hunt Dog, complimenting each other with attacks with Midna’s hand grabs and Link’s bites and scratches. Wolf Link isn’t as strong as normal Link, so maybe in smash he could be fast with a good jumping ability, but not very strong. I can see the hype already for this character.
King K. Rool Donkey Kong Country
It almost makes me smile thinking of the King of the Kremlings squaring off again the King of the Koopas. It’s an absolute tragedy that he didn’t make it into Smash 4, especially considering fans have been asking for him for a while. It’s pretty easy to see what kind of character he would be, playing similar to Bowser in being slow but powerful. He has a lot of inspiration for moves, taking from the Donkey Kong Country series that he appears in. He could use his crown as a boomerang, throw cannonballs, use a blunderbuss or maybe even something to do with his helicopter pack from DKC:3.
Ribbon Girl From Arms
One of the things I love about Nintendo is that they obviously give a lot of love to their mainline franchises like Mario and Zelda. But they also are very intuitive and try new things. They have done this quite a bit lately with the creation of the Switch and games likes Splatoon and Arms. One look at Ribbon Girl and the Arms game and you can tell she was made to be in Smash. Obviously she’d be a long range fighter, with having a long grab but maybe a bad jumping ability. Maybe her final smash could be a bunch of her friends from Arms could come and literally beat the living hell out of their opponents.
Andy From Advanced Wars
Now we are getting into the Nintendo back-log. As a 21 year old, Advance Wars was from my “good ol’ days”. Advance Wars is a tactics game that always gets compared to Fire Emblem (it’s made by the same developer), but it’s strange that the series hasn’t been brought back after the popularity of a game like Fire Emblem has been on the rise. It could bring a lot of people to become a fan of the series. Honestly, I couldn’t even imagine how Andy would play; he could do things like use his wrench to attack, or use his CO power to heal himself. Or maybe he could use the actual units from the Advance Wars games like tanks or infantry.
And now we get into the third party characters. IN MY OPINION, I view Crash as the mascot for Playstation. This is one of the reasons that I feel like he would fit so well squaring off against the likes of Mario, Sonic and Pacman. Whether he is using his spin attack, sliding or somehow using wumpa fruit to hurt his enemies. With Crash’s move to the Nintendo Switch with the port of the N’sane Trilogy, I think this is a viable option.
This one is definitely pretty controversial because Goku isn’t originally a video game character. He does have a large history in video games that is still going on today, but his history is in anime. There are some problems right off the bat, like changing his art style to fit smash, nerfing him to make sure he isn’t a God like in the anime, and deciding how to, or whether or not to include his Super Saiyan transformations. His move list could be so beautiful by adding so many of his classing moves like the spirit bomb, dragon fist, solar flare or the legendary Kamehameha. Maybe he could even use his power pole or nimbus.
Maybe Smash could also add Superman so he could beat the crap out of him #TeamGoku. Also, this.
I really hope you guys like our list, if you agree or disagree, let me know and if you have list of your own, post it down in the comments. The Smash community has always been one of my favourites and the hype surrounding Smash for Switch is crazy. Try and stay safe out there as fake Smash character leaks are in high demand. I’m sure the world will go nuts every time they reveal a new character and when they do, we will be here to let you know. Stay Savvy guys!
