In a surprise announcement at this years Gamescom, Age of Empires IV was announced to the crowd’s delight. Here is the trailer below.
In a celebration of the history of Age of Empires and looking back to all the great games, it was announced that Relic Entertainment is currently developing Age of Empires IV. The game will be released by Microsoft on Windows 10 devices.
From the talks I’ve seen around the internet, it looks like there’s demand for Age of Empires to go to Xbox and consoles. Personally, I don’t think RTS’ play very well on consoles. They’re really built for mouse and keyboard set up but if they can figure it out on consoles, all the power to them.
The trailer begins with a beautiful tapestry of war and carnage. We then see an emperor raising his hand up to his great kingdom which is followed by another kingdom under siege, seemingly losing the battle.
One interesting note from the trailer is the many different armies we’re shown. Spanish Conquistadors, British Naval Forces, African Warriors, Native American Warriors and more are shown off in the trailer. The game certainly won’t be focusing on any particular century. I like games where every time you play you can tell a different story to a person who’s playing the same game. Having so many armies gives you so many different experiences and stories to tell.
As the narrator notes, a new age is upon us. Unfortunately, we weren’t given many details as to when that age begins. There weren’t too many details shared about the game aside from its existence and what platform it would be releasing on.
