Treyarch has released the full trailer for Black Ops 4. It is the map that will commemorate the 10 year anniversary of the Zombies game mode, along with statues for each character, based on the Origins map.
After their first appearance in Call of Duty World at War ten years ago in Shi No Numa, Dempsey, Richtofen, Takeo, and Nikolai are back. After being absent for a few games, the original four (ignoring the Ultimis vs Primis crew distinction for a moment) return in a reimagining of the Mob of the Dead map released with Black Ops II.
It will be interesting to see how gameplay is changed from MotD, but we know from the trailer our pal Brutus is back, at least. As a tribute to the game more after 10 years, it will hopefully include the features we’ve come to know and love, like Perk-a-Cola and Pack-a-Punch. Maybe the Ray Gun, if we’re lucky. There are definitely going to be plenty of zombies.
The other maps releasing with Black Ops 4 follow new characters and a presumably new story, but what was shown for Blood of the Dead is something very familiar. The trailer shows the Primis crew entering Alcatraz, where they make their way to the lab. There, they encounter a future version of Richtofen, who hands off a box of vials and the Kronorium to his past self, indicating things have changed since Primis Richtofen had it last. This Richtofen then enters the portal and disappears.
Based on the cutscene shown in the trailer, it is likely this map plays through a portion of the already existing story (where Richtofen meets up with his past self in the Alcatraz lab to hand off the vials of blood), but with Zombies you can never really know for sure until you play. It may be something entirely new that continues (and potentially muddles) the narrative.
Will the Victis crew make an appearance, other than the nod and brief glimpse to the fact that they are cryogenically frozen in the lab? I can’t wait to find out, that’s for sure.
Various timelines and universes in the Zombies story aside, any time these guys show up it makes for an entertaining map. There is no denying, whether you have been following the story or not, Blood of the Dead is going to be a really good time. Call of Duty Black Ops 4 releases on October 12, only 82 days to go!
