The creators of Firewatch, Campo Santo, revealed their newest game, In The Valley Of Gods set to release on PC for 2019 at the Game Awards 2017. Of course in the same fashion as Firewatch, the game will most likely come to consoles but it’s only planned for a PC release.
The game looks like it’s set in the late 1920’s in ancient Egypt (based on the clothes of the characters). You’ll get to explore the ruins of ancient Egypt.
From what I can see, Campo Santo sticks to their strengths with this new game. They really delivered a powerful first-person experience by developing a relationship between the two main characters in Firewatch. In The Valley Of Gods looks to double down on that by actually including a second character you can interact with. It kind of reminds of Booker and Elizabeth in Bioshock or Ellie and Joel from The Last Of Us.
According to IGN:
(The game) stars Rashida and Zora, a pair of documentary filmmakers who accidentally made it big with a hit movie (think Nanook of the North), but have since seen their careers go off a cliff. They reunite years later after receiving information about the lost Tomb of Nefertiti, with a goal of reigniting their careers by documenting their trip to Egypt.
What’s really interesting in The Valley of Gods, is the emphasis on actually shooting the documentary. In the trailer, we see the characters set up a tripod and shoot some film. But according to Campo Santo, their goal is to allow you to watch all your film back as a documentary when you complete the game. Very interesting upgrade onto heir photo taking mechanic in Firewatch.
I’m really excited about Camp Santo’s The Valley of Gods. I think it’s going to be another really great story to experience and I think they’ve really doubled down on their strengths.
