- Dead Cells – Motion Twin – WINNER!
- Destiny 2: Forsaken – Bungie / Activision
- Far Cry 5 – Ubisoft Montreal / Ubisoft
- Mega Man 11 – Capcom
Note: Fantastic to see Dead Cells win. It had such an amazing reception, found itself in the midst of controversy but the talent and quality was clearly noticed by the journalists who voted. You can check out our review for Dead Cells where our former editor, Joseph Yaden, said it had his vote for game of the year.
Best Role Playing Game Winner: Monster Hunter World

- Monster Hunter World – Capcom – WINNER!
- Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom – Level 5 / Bandai Namco Entertainment

- Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire – Obsidian Entertainment / Versus Evil
Note: No offence to the other games featured, but this was Monster Hunter World’s award to lose. Great world that Monster Hunter team has built and it’s great to see a storied company like Capcom win an award like this. Huge apologies to our very own Emily who’s a huge Deadfire fan and huge congrats to Capcom with Monster Hunter World.

Note: Fantastic! We just skipped through all the eSports stuff. I think I’d be a huge fan of eSports if there was some central league I could watch like the NHL or NFL. But alas, such an exciting gaming phenomenon isn’t as exciting as it should based purely on a lack of exposure. So, it’s great to see them get some exposure at the game awards but also great that we got through that pretty fast imo.
Best Student Game Winner: Combat 2018
- Combat 2018 – Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences – Norway – WINNER!

- God Of War – Sony Santa Monica / SIE
- Life Is Strange 2: Episode 1 – Dotnod Entertainment / Square Enix
- Marvel’s Spider-Man – Insomniac / SIE
- Red Dead Redemption 2 – Rockstar Games – WINNER
Note: This was the first major category of the night. We see the two juggernauts, Red Dead Redemption 2 and God Of War duke it out while Spider-Man and Detroit are no slouches either. Red Dead Redemption 2 took this one home for the narrative, which has been an amazing ride so far. Looking forward to see all these games duke it out for the rest of the night.
Best Performance Winner: Roger Clark as Arthur Morgan, Red Dead Redemption II
- Bryan Dechart as Connor, Detroit: Become Human
- Christopher Judge as Kratos, God of War
- Melissanthi Mahut as Kassandra, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
- Roger Clark as Arthur Morgan, Red Dead Redemption II – WINNER!
- Yuri Lowenthal as Peter Parker, Marvel’s Spider-Man
Note: The second big win for Red Dead Redemption 2. Roger Clark’s performance in this sequel is outstanding. He really brings the outlaw Arthur Morgan to life as a masculine anti-hero with a heart. Well deserved win although, any of the other games could have easily won as well. Lots of talent in this industry!

- Marvel’s Spider-Man – Insomniac / SIE
- Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom – Level 5 / Bandai Namco Entertainment
- Octopath Traveler – Square Enix / Acquire / Nintendo
- Red Dead Redemption 2 – Rockstar Games – WINNER!
Note: As a musician, I’m always really curious and excited about this category. I had no favourites coming in because each game had it’s own unique sound. But considering how cinematic Red Dead Redemption 2 was, the soundtrack really did amplify and add to the entire experience like no other game. My actual vote was God Of War but
