While Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have been praised for it’s work rebooting the Tomb Raider series, Lara Croft’s story is sadly coming to an end with Shadow Of The Tomb Raider releasing later this year. The upcoming game is the not-so-secret third instalment into the new Tomb Raider series and has been in development for quite some time. While is wasn’t officially announced until recently, it’s actually been leaked in a very unorthodox way which we explain in this clip from the Game Savvy podcast below.
Shadow Of The Tomb Raider Releasing In September
Shadow Of The Tomb Raider will be hitting consoles on September 14th, 2018 where you’ll be able to play it on your Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Since Tomb Raider was first rebooted by Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics, it’s been associated mainly with the Xbox franchise because of it’s timed exclusivity deals. In this case, Shadow Of The Tomb Raider will be releasing for all platforms worldwide on the same day and is now being developed by Eidos Montreal. This is good news as more players will get to jump into the brand new Tomb Raider series all at the same time. The bad news is it will be releasing alongside Insomniac’s Spider-Man game for PS4 which just got a new release date, as well as Red Dead Redemption 2.
Is This The Last Tomb Raider By Square Enix?
Yes, Shadow Of The Tomb Raider will be the third and FINAL instalment by Square Enix’s Tomb Raider series which began back in 2013. It’s unfortunate because they’ve done such a great job with bringing the Tomb Raider series back into relevancy. No longer is Lara an over-sexualized triangle-boobed heroine but rather a badass hunting adventurer who’s feats are as amazing as her injuries through out the series.
Fortunately, Square Enix is promising a climactic finale to Lara’s origin story.
